This is the week that I (hopefully) take charge in my Eliminator Pool - I am in the final five and am the only one with the Patriots left. They're beginning to look like a wrecking ball again, so keep my fingers crossed.
On to the picks.
NYJ at DEN - A short week for both squads, and Tebow's arm is fresh (2-8 passing in a W last week). That sure takes Revis out of the scenario. I can't see it working long term, but I'm not thinking long term. The Jets are getting better against the run, however. NEW YORK JETS
OAK at MIN - The Raiders are as up-and-down as it gets and against a miserable Vikings team, but the Raiders run D is awful. And the Vikes have a guy named AP. Carson Palmer looked good last week and with a long time to game plan, I think Hue's boys will get after it. OAKLAND
BUF at MIA - Two teams headed in opposite directions. For now. Buffalo is still a good team while the Dolphins have suddenly rattled off two wins in a row. Reggie Bush is involved again and the Dolphins are playing with confidence. MIAMI
CIN at BAL - The saga of the Ravens. Losses to JAX and SEA, blowout wins over PIT, HOU, and NYJ. Who are these guys? Ginger Andy Dalton is all grows up but this Ravens defense is fired up (or at least they better be). BALTIMORE
JAC at CLE - The Browns will not go to the Super Bowl. The Jags are playing solid defense and MJD is always a workhorse. JACKSONVILLE
DAL at WAS - The Redskins are a rotting carcass and the Boys are the vultures. This one had blowout written all over it. DALLAS
TB at GB - Battle of the Bays. The Packers are an unstoppable force while the Bucs have let up a TD pass in every game but one (Week 2 vs. MIN). Rodgers will feast in what should be their 10th win. PACKERS
CAR at DET - What a story the Lions were for a few weeks early on. They got annihilated last week at the hands of Da Bears. The Panthers are not the Bears, however. DETROIT
AZ at SF - The Cardinals shocked the world winning in Philly last week (OK, not the world, but me) and the 49ers offense looked meager against the Giants. Whether or not Frank Gore plays is moot point as Kendall Hunter has proven he is capable. I am thinking a few of the five remaining will go with the 49ers, so... ARIZONA
SEA at StL - What a game! I'll take a coin flip here and go with the home team. Although both are coming off wins. ST. LOUIS
SD at CHI - I don't think anyone would have been so gung-ho on the Bears after their lackluster start, but they are proving a lot of people wrong. They are the real deal and Jay Cutler is looking good (knock on wood, knock on wood). Philip Rivers needs to minimize the mistakes for the Bolts to have a chance. SAN DIEGO
TEN at ATL - Well it looks like CJ0K decided to man up and run for once. The Falcons gave the game away last week at home against the Saints. I don't see that happening this week. ATLANTA
PHI at NYG - This could be the game that TKO's Andy Reid in Philadelphia. Or at least one of the members of his staff (I'm talking about you, Juan Castillo). The Giants are without top RB Ahmad Bradshaw, but I don't think it'll matter. Eli is good enough. NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS
KC at NE - The Chiefs haunted hayride continues and they should leave New England with their thrid straight loss since Halloween. Tom Brady is Tom Brady and the defense, for what it's worth, should be good enough against a KC squad without it's best RB and QB. NEW ENGLAND
That's all for me. Nolan is awake and I gotta get going. Headed to Pittsburgh this weekend (Fri to Sun) - it's unfortunate there aren't any home games for the Steelers or the Penguins.
Take care. Be back Sunday for game day.

Monday Mourning
New York and Pennsylvania (besides the Steelers) football had a rough week, a really rough week. We all know about the Penn State disgrace. The Eagles' "Dream Team" fell to the Cardinals, dropping them to 3-6 and all but eliminating them from the postseason. The Giants lost out west against a very, very good 49ers team. The Jets let their fans down and Rex might finally be starting to see they are nothing more than pretenders, getting blown out, at home, by the Patriots.
On to the results. Oh, and I am one of five people left in my Eliminator Pool - from 469 entries to five. There were 39 people alive at the beginning of the week - 29 picked the Eagles and 5 picked the Ravens. Three have the Packers tonight, one picked the Steelers and I went with the Cowboys. I am the only one left with the Patriots.
I had a rough week at first glance, but I say that every week after the games go final.
San Diego - L - I am happy to take this L because it means the Raiders are in first place in the weakest division in the NFL, the AFC West.
JACKSONVILLE - W - MJD ran for over 100 yards and the Colts missed their opportunity to win - or did they? They're the frontrunners for the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes.
Atlanta - L - They couldn't get a first down on 4th and inches and handed the game to the Saints after fighting back to send it to OT. Tough loss for the Dirty Birds.
HOUSTON - W - Andre Johnson is proving to be a mere accessory in H-Town. The running game scored three TD's. TB was a flash in the pan.
Cincinnati - L - The Steelers took advantage of a golden opportunity in the AFC North. The Bengals might begin their fall from grace.
TENNESSEE - W - Man the Panthers are not good. Cam Newton is proving he's a rookie and can't have monster games week in, week out. and look who showed up, CJ0K. Good win.
Philadelphia - L - Not too upset because it allowed me to reach the Final 5 in my Eliminator.
Kansas City - L - 93 yards? Really Matt Cassel? I mean it's more than Tebow's 69 yards on 2 completions, but at least they won.
DALLAS - W - Got me into the Final 5. It was a ballsy pick, but Dallas was at home, and DeMarco Murray is proving he's a beast.
Cleveland - L - Who cares? They should have won but missed a chip shot FG with just over a minute left.
MIAMI - W - Break up the Dolphins!! And the Redskins freefall continues.
Baltimore - L - The true Jekyll and Hyde of the NFL is the Baltimore Ravens. Losses to the lowly Seahawks and Jacksonville within a month?
New York Giants - L - Larry Fitzgerald would have caught that last pass. It was a great game but they made one mistake too many. Eli played well, but the Niners are for real.
CHICAGO - W - The Bears are on the upswing, the Lions on a downward spiral. The Bears are getting hot.
New York Jets - L - Why would I even pick the Patriots to lose two straight in NY? What an idiot.
6-9 record with the Vikings/Packers game pending tonight.
Not great but the overall record is still respectable.

Week 10 Picks; Penn State
The blackout has lifted and I am here to make my Week 10 picks after spending the better part of the past two weeks in the dark - literally.
OAK at SD - Both teams are in a tailspin in a terrbily wea AFC West. Carson Palmer wasn't the issue in their L to Denver, it was the horrid D. Oakland is once again proving to be a letdown. Philip Rivers' performance in the L to GB last week proves he is still elite (even though he leads the NFL with 14 INT's). SAN DIEGO
JAX at IND - MJD is still performing at a high level even though the rest of his team sucks. The Colts, this is their season - they can win this or get Andrew Luck - not both. They choose Luck. JACKSONVILLE
NO at ATL - Which Saints team is going to show up in Hot-lanta? We know Drew Brees will. The Falcons are hot as a pistol and at home in the dome. ATLANTA
HOU at TB - The Texans are pretty good and they're even playing some defense. The Bucs are having trouble stopping anyone but are 1-0 agains the AFC. Sorry, that isn't enough for me. HOUSTON
PIT at CIN - Don't look now but the Bengals have won 5 straight and are ahead of the Steelers in the AFC North. This is a statement game for the Bengals - win and you prove you're for real. They're for real. CINCINNATI
TEN at CAR - CJ0K had 100 yards last week - finally! I can see the ageless one, Steve Smith, going for 180+ yards this week - only because they're down early. TENNESSEE
AZ at PHI - The Eagles' season might not be over yet, but they neeeeed this game against a terrible Cardinals team. If ever there was a "must win", this is it. The Cardinals QB situation is in shambles and I can't see Beanie Wells winning this one for them. PHILADELPHIA
DEN at KC - The Chiefs were beginning to show people they meant business but then they ran into the buzzsaw that was ... ... ... the Dolphins?!? Are you kidding me? They clearly aren't for real and the Broncos aren't either, so this one is a coin flip. KANSAS CITY
BUF at DAL - The Bills have fallen on tough times and the times always seem tough in Big D. Tony Romo is still a good QB and DeMarco Murray is a beast on the ground. Ryan Fitzpatrick is pretty good and Fred Jackson is a beast. I like Dallas's defense a little more. DALLAS
StL at CLE - Peyton Hillis is a bum. The Rams are a bunch of bums. I'll take less bums. CLEVELAND
WAS at MIA - Now that the Dolphins aren't going to get Andrew Luck, they might as well give this winning thing a shot. Luckily, the Skins gave up on wins a month ago. MIAMI
BAL at SEA - The Ravens were the best team in the AFC until they lost to Jacksonville in front of the entire country. Flacco has been waccoand Ray Rice is an animal. Seattle beat the Giants, who are pretty good. That's all I got. BALTIMORE
NYG at SF - This is the game of the week as far as I'm concerned and the Giants typically don't show up in big games (not since the Super Bowl). Eli is playing like an elite QB. The Niners are 7-1, Frank Gore has 5 straight 100+ yard games, and the defense is pretty stubborn (118 points in 8 games). I'm from NY though, so I might be taking this L. NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS
DET at CHI - Lovie Smith loves his team and they should never be an 8-point dog. Lucky for them, they're only 2.5-point favorites at home against the Suh Squad. I like where Jay Cutler's head is at. CHICAGO
NE at NYJ - The Patriots cannot lose to two NY teams in back-to-back weeks. It's unfathomable. Or is it? The Jets seem to have righted the ship and are playing pretty good. NEW YORK JETS
MIN at GB - The Purple People Eaters aren't stopping the Cheese Train this week. To 9-0. GREEN BAY
That's my picks.
As for Penn State, it's a sad state of affairs. Paterno is a great coach who made a horrific judgement call in not reporting what he knew. And frankly, it's surprising.
Jerry Sandusky should rot in hell.

Baylor/OK State Fun Fact
Baylor trailed 35-0 at the half, yet didn't punt the ball once.
Six possessions, 19 first downs, two turnovers.
It went like this:
Downs -- FG Miss -- INT -- Downs -- INT -- End of Half
And they just fumbled on their first possession of the second half after two plays.
42-0 Cowboys. Pack it up in Stillwater.

Holy World Series; Week 8 Picks
David Freese!! Are you kidding me? The Rangers bullpen couldn't hold it down with one strike left, and the Cardinals scored in the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th to take Game 6 and send this World Series to a deciding Game 7. Tonight, history will be made. And I hope that piece of s*** Albert Pujols doesn't get his ring. Dude is all about the money and has a head the size of a VW Beetle.
On to the NFL picks for Week 8. Last weekend I had a 7-6 record and this weekend, the games look to be a little easier to pick - straight up anyway.
MIA at NYG - I like the Giants in this one, even though they've been prone to letting up the big play. The Dolphins looked like crap last time they were in NY and I think the Giants are better than Gang Green. Oh, and Tony Sparano apparently put his house in Miami up for sale. NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS
JAX ar HOU - Sure, the Jags shocked the Ravens on MNF. But wins over two playoff caliber teams? In a row? Not sure about that one. Andre Johnson may be back for this one too. MJD probably will have another 100+ on the ground though. HOUSTON
ARI at BAL - Ray Lewis will have this team flying around the field all day on Sunday. Poor Kevin Kolb and the Cardinals. They should have stayed in the sun. BALTIMORE
NO at StL - The Rams are almost as bad as the Dolphins. And are worse when AJ Feeley is under center. The Saints, they are coming off a 62-point performance against the Colts. What a tough stretch of schedule. NEW ORLEANS
MIN at CAR - The Vikings put up a fight at home against the Packers. Two rookie QB's headline this matchup, and I like the one who's been playing all year. CAROLINA
IND at TEN - The Dolts are bad, very bad. Chris Johnson is bad, very bad. However, the Titans have a few weapons through the air (Nate Washington, Damian Williams, Jared Cook). The Colts, Pierre Garcon and Reggie Wayne. But who throws it to them? TENNESSEE
DET at DEN - Tim Tebow in a home game. The Lions are on the verge of three straight L's after starting 5-0. I don't think the Broncos are bad enough to hold the Lions down, even with Matthew Stafford and Jahvid Best ailing a little. DETROIT
WAS at BUF - The Skins offense is putrid. The Bills are still proving to be a pretty decent team. Orchard Park in what might be snowy conditions? BUFFALO
CIN at SEA - The Bengals are not bad while the Seahawks are. Cedric Benson is SSPD this week so Bernard Scott can shine. He'll shine enough to get a W for the stripes. CINCINNATI
CLE at SF - The Niners, the team by the Bay that is consistent and in first place. The Browns, I am not sure they'll want to go back to the Bay Area after the Niners whoop up on them. This may be my Eliminator Pick. SAN FRANCISCO
NE at PIT - Tom Brady always lights up the Steelers. And that's in past years when they were a little better. The weather won't be an issue - Captain America Tom Brady performs in any weather. NEW ENGLAND
DAL at PHI - There will be fans who wind up in jail after this bloodbath. This is a rivalry that has never gone away and it'll show on the field. The Eagles can ill-afford to drop to 2-5 while the Cowboys look to get above .500. DALLAS
SD at KC - As bad as the AFC West is, the Chargers are still at the top. The Chiefs have won three straight, are at .500, and are -45 in point differential. Go figure. Philip Rivers, can you please play like an elite QB this week? SAN DIEGO
I got my first win in fantasy football last week thanks to DeMarco Murray and Michael Jenkins - I know, a who's who of "who the hell are they?"
Nolan is finishing up a bottle, then I am going for a walk. Gonna check out the gym tonight as well.
Happy Friday.

Week 7 Results
This is a late edition of my results from the weekend games in the NFL. Things are pretty hectic over here, still trying to get all settled in here in the new place.
Without really looking too much into it yet, I can tell this is the first week I'm going to be under-.500.
To the games:
Detroit - L - Stafford got hurt. Matty Ice got it done. Roddy White has strong hands. Enough said. Oh, and the Lions have lost 2 straight - maybe they're a fake.
DENVER - W - Tebow Time in Denver has begun. If his jersey wasn't selling before, it's sure to be #1 in the NFL now. The dude kissed a teammate on the lips. And he got a W.
Tennessee - L - This was a blowout, in favor of the Texans. 41-7? At home? The Titans are not for real. Chris Johnson is a fraud! Or is it the offensive play calling? 10 carries? What a bust.
Tampa Bay - L - Matt Forte is pretty good. The Bucs were bloody bad (in my best English accent). And I heard they're having open tryouts for RB this week.
CLEVELAND - W - 6-3? A baseball score for a game no one cared about, not even the people of Cleveland. They got the W though. Go Browns!
San Diego - L - Did they ever give this one away. Philip Rivers looked like Mark Sanchez and the goose egg the Bolts put up in the second half led to the L. Credit the Jets, who's offense finally put up some points.
CAROLINA - W - Cam Newton finally didn't throw an INT and the Panthers won (both W's came when Newton didn't throw an INT) Unbelievable. The Skins spiral continues, although John Beck looked pretty good, too bad Santana Moss is out 5-7 weeks.
PITTSBURGH - W - I can't believe the Cardinals put up 20 points on the Steelers. Too bad their defense let up 32. Mike Wallace is fast, in case you weren't sure. But the Steelers running game is pitiful.
Oakland - L - 6 INT's by Raiders QB's? Carson Palmer should have stayed out of uniform - talk about a miserable debut. Not to mention the rest of the team was equally miserable. The Chiefs have won three straight.
DALLAS - W - A laugher, and the reason I won this week of fantasy football - FINALLY! Pick up of the Year = DeMarco Murray - 253 yards and a TD. What a game. The Rams are the worst team in football.
GREEN BAY - W - Aaron Rodgers is an animal. I feel like I say that every single week. He has to be the best player in the NFL, bar none. The Vikings gave them a scare, though - AP had 175 yards TD - he's the second best player in the league. And they were my Eliminator Pick.
NEW ORLEANS - W - 62-7 sounds like a college score. But fear not, this was an NFL game. The Dolts are bad, real bad. It's too bad the Colts and Rams don't play eachother. Drew Brees threw for 5 TD's - 4 less than the Colts have scored on offense all season.
Jacksonville - L - I'm taking this one OK because I decided not to go with Baltimore in the Eliminator and they were beated by the Jags, who refused to score a TD but managed to win. Jack Del Rio had this defense pumped up and Joe Flacco still doesn't scare anyone.
Seven wins, six losses. Kept my head above water somehow. Time to get ready for Taco Tuesday.
